Cumulative Count (Cumulative N)

A running total of the number of observations in successive categories.

For example, an elementary school records the number of students in grades one through six. The rightmost column contains the cumulative count of the student population:

The cumulative count indicates:

·    107 students are in first or second grade

·    219 students are in grades four and below

·    the total number of students in all grades is 322
