Response Optimizer
Mixture Designs

Summary

Use Minitab's Response Optimizer to help identify the input variable settings that optimize a single response or a set of responses. For multiple responses, the requirements for all the responses in the set must be satisfied.

Response optimization is often useful in product development when you need to determine component proportions or operating conditions that will result in a product with desirable properties. For example, you may need to determine settings that optimize several properties of a product, such as the component proportions of a cheese fondue and the temperature at which it is served.

Data Description

Researchers in a food laboratory are trying to improve a recipe for cheese fondue. They would like to study the effects of the mixture blend as well as the temperature at which the fondue is served. Three quality characteristics are of interest: the flavor (Flavor), the quantity that sticks to bread dipped into the fondue (Quantity), and the amount of the mixture that is burned at the bottom of the pot (Burned).

The mixture is comprised of three ingredients: two types of Swiss cheese (Emmenthaler and Gruyere) and white wine.

Data: Recipe.MTW (available in the Sample Data folder).
