Two Variances

Graphs - Individual Value Plot

Use the individual value plot to help you visualize the shape and spread of the sample data, uncover any outliers, and compare distributions:

·    Look for areas with higher and lower dot densities to get an idea of a distribution's shape.

·    The relative height of each distribution illustrates its variability.

·    Outliers fall further away from the main group of dots.

This graph helps you visualize the spread of your data. However, use the test results or the summary plot to determine if the standard deviations are significantly different.

Example Output

Interpretation

The individual value plot shows that the number of corrections for the first class road (1) was smaller than the number of corrections for the dirt road (2). The variability between groups appears approximately equal. The data for first class roads may be skewed to the right.
