Poisson Regression

Summary

Use Poisson Regression when the response variable counts occurrences. Use this procedure to fit Poisson regression models, to store statistics, and to examine residual diagnostics.

Minitab stores the last model that you fit. You can use the stored model to quickly generate predictions, contour plots, surface plots, overlaid contour plots, and response optimization.

Data Description

A manufacturer produces molded resin parts. Contamination in hoses and abrasions to resin pellets can lead to discolored streaks in the final product. Higher temperatures and faster rates of transfer can cause pellets to clump together. Clumps can be difficult to move through hoses and into molds. The company collects data on the number of defects per hour.

Column

Name

Description

C1

Size of Screw

The large screw moves resin pellets through transfer hoses faster.

C2

Hours Since Cleanse

The time since workers cleaned the hoses.

C3

Temperature

The temperature around the pellets during transfer.

C4

Discoloration defects

The number of discolored streaks in the batch of final products.

C5

Clump defects

The number of clumps of pellets so large as to be defects.
